              The Biology of Sleep

Sleep is a cycle, and in cyclical fashion, it goes through stages and then repeats. The cycle itself lasts 90 to 110 minutes, and is repeated four to six times per night ("Information about Sleep" 2003). Later as the cycle progresses, the amount of NREM sleep decreases and the amount of REM sleep increases.
